This year’s graduating class was a representation of diverse and progressive female leaders from New Jersey’s various counties. Each came to Emerge New Jersey with unique skills and attributes, yearning to make a difference and foster positive change. Energized by the 2016 Presidential Election, the class felt that now, more than ever, women need to emerge into the political arena. Lisa Douglas, a graduate and resident of Newark stated, “Subsequent to the disappointing election, I realized it was my duty as an African-American woman to ‘emerge.’” She continued, “The Emerge New Jersey political training program provided me with invaluable tools to effectively prepare and run for office. Empowered, I now further understand the importance of not only possessing a seat at the table, but it is my responsibility to create one if none exist."

Coverage on Emerge New Jersey 2017 Class Member Kristen Zadroga-Hart, a public school teacher in Jersey City, who has raised a total of $60,554 and has spent a little more than half. Besides a $10,000 loan to herself, many of the larger contributions have come from those endorsing her campaign, including $7,400 from the Jersey City Educators Association (JCEA) PAC and $8,200 from the New Jersey Educators Association (NJEA) PAC.

The graduation will take place in Montclair, New Jersey at the residence of BlueWave NJ President, Marcia Marley. Ticket prices are $75.00 per person and the deadline to RSVP is June 21, 2017.

Emily's List, an organization that helps Democratic women run for public office, has noticed an early trend in female veterans signing up to run. Emerge America, a training program for Democratic women who want to run for office, has seen women of more diverse backgrounds showing interest, including veterans. The Women's Programs at the Veterans Campaign, a nonpartisan group focused on getting women veterans into office, has seen a spike ahead of the midterm elections.
