Emerge New Jersey, the premier political training organization for Democratic women in the state, will graduate its fourth class of Democratic women on Satuday, June 24, 2017 at 11:30AM. The graduation will take place in Montclair, New Jersey at the residence of BlueWave NJ President, Marcia Marley. Ticket prices are $75.00 per person and the deadline to RSVP is June 21, 2017.

Emily's List, an organization that helps Democratic women run for public office, has noticed an early trend in female veterans signing up to run. Emerge America, a training program for Democratic women who want to run for office, has seen women of more diverse backgrounds showing interest, including veterans. The Women's Programs at the Veterans Campaign, a nonpartisan group focused on getting women veterans into office, has seen a spike ahead of the midterm elections.

In an email to supporters and donors, Clinton said Monday that those groups include Swing Left, a grassroots network supporting Democratic House candidates in swing districts; Emerge America, a group urging Democratic women to run for office; Color of Change, a criminal justice reform focused organization; Indivisible, the effort that has spearheaded the protests at congressional town halls across the country; and Run for Something, a group formed by former Clinton campaigns staffers that looks to urge young people to run for local office.

One organization that directly supports women looking to run for office is Emerge America, which provides 70-hours of training classes to Democratic women planning their campaigns. According to A'shanti Gholar, the political director for Emerge America, many of the 18 states the program reaches saw the number of people registering for classes in the days following the election not only increase, but double.

There has been a surge of New Jersey women interested in running for office, said Truscha Quatrone, executive director of Emerge New Jersey, which offers training for Democratic women seeking elected office. Since November, the organization has seen a 70 percent increase in the number of women who want to enroll in its programs, where participants meet one weekend a month for six months to learn about public speaking, fundraising, marketing, ethical leadership, and other topics. The numbers “at every level of Democratic participation are up dramatically,” she said. Twenty-two women are currently running for the state legislature, which is a record, according to Quatrone

A few months ago, when it looked likely the United States would elect its first woman president, Jean Sinzdak and her colleagues expected a flood of women inspired to enter politics would follow.

What they didn’t expect was even with Hillary Clinton’s loss, their hunch might still be correct.

The Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University receives between 150 and 200 registrants each year for its Ready to Run campaign training workshop in March.

This year, 270 women registered.
